Since the early days of the company Geberit's history has been lined with innovations. Many of those innovations set new standards in the sanitary industry or set the stage for products that are found in modern bathrooms today.
1874 - How it all began
Geberit's long history lined with innovations started back in 1874 when Caspar Melchior Albert Gebert (1850-1909) opened his first plumbing business in the old town quarter of Rapperswil, Switzerland.

1905 - Wooden cistern
The sons of the company's founder, Albert Emil and Leo Gebert, succeed in manufacturing the first, lead-lined wooden cistern with lead fittings in 1905. The product was called “Phoenix” and is the cornerstone for future growth of the back then young company.

1952 - Plastic cistern
In constant search of product innovations the company ventures into the area of plastics processing - at this time a new technique. In 1952 the first plastic cistern is produced, with the company experiencing a marked upswing in the wake of this product breakthrough. Ads from this time show that the plastic cisterns were advertised as being “indestructible“.

1964 - Concealed cistern
In 1964 Geberit introduces the first concealed cistern. With this innovation Geberit set a new standard in the sanitary industry for the years to come and changed the look of bathrooms around the world. Geberit concealed cisterns have been installed over a million times and are known for their reliability.

1970 - Geberit Sovent
The Geberit Sovent fitting marks a major innovation in the field of building drainage. The water is set in rotation, which causes it to press against the pipe wall. The resulting annular flow creates a stable, continuous column of air on the inside, which facilitates higher discharge capacities.

1985 - Geberit Pluvia
Geberit has been setting new standards for decades with the Geberit Pluvia syphonic roof drainage system. Pluvia drains roofs efficiently and reliably even under the heaviest rainfall. Because significantly less product material and space is required for siphonic roof drainage than for conventional systems, free space is created.

1996 - Dual Flush technology
To save water Geberit introduced the dual flush actuation for the WC in 1996: the smaller button flushes with 3 litres, the bigger one with 6 litres and is easily reduced to 4.5 litres. Actuator plates with water-saving dual flush are available in many different styles, materials and colour combinations.

2012 - Rimfree technology
Cleanliness and hygiene are important, especially in the bathroom. But cleaning can become a hassle as common WC pans with a flush rim cannot easily be cleaned. With the Rimfree technology Geberit has introduced a patented flush technology in 20012: as there is no rim where dirt and bacteria could accumulate, the inner surface of the WC pan is cleaned in one swipe.

2015 - TurboFlush technology
The TurboFlush technology was developed by Geberit in 2015. The asymmetrical inner geometry of the ceramic appliance allows a particularly thorough and quiet flush out. A single lateral flush opening is sufficient for the flush water inlet. As far as cleaning is concerned, inaccessible areas have been greatly reduced; there are no edges or corners whatsoever.

2018 - Geberit SuperTube
One of Geberit's most recent innovations is the SuperTube system for drainage in high-rise buildings. With this system a parallel ventilation pipe is no longer required, creating more space.
